Alston Ambulance

mountain_rescueIn 2011 I was very concerned by the possibility that Alston and the surrounding area would be left without out-of-hours medical cover, and was consequently extremely supportive of the campaign for retention of the ambulance service. I wrote to the North West Ambulance Service Trust (NWAST) to indicate my strong concern, to request sight of the criteria set out by the Care Quality Commission, and to explain the very pressing case for Alston Moor to maintain its ambulance service – which has, after all, been a mainstay of the community for over 50 years. I was, therefore, extremely gratified when, in an example of Cumbrian community action at its best, we saved the Alston Ambulance.
