Rory Congratulates Wigton’s Successful ‘Town Team’ Application

Rory has congratulated the Wigton’s ‘Town Team’ applicants and Allerdale Borough Council on their successful application to become a Town Team partner, following his endorsement of the town’s application.

Wigton will now be able to access a support package designed by the Association of Town Centre Management. The support package aims to promote shared learning and best practice amongst the many Market Towns which applied for funding under the recent Mary Portas Town Team Initiative. The package includes help from retail experts and other Town Teams from across the country. In addition, each Town Team Partner will be receiving £10,000 to help towards putting some of their plans into action.

Rory said: “I’m delighted that Wigton has been one of the successful applicants to become a Town Team Partner, particularly given the very hard work they put in to become a Portas Pilot. I very much look forward to supporting them in their efforts to improve and revitalise the local area, and to build on the excellent work that Wigton’s community are already doing to regenerate the town.”

Mark Prisk MP, Housing Minister, said: “I look forward to hearing how Wigton takes forward their plans for revitalising the town. I am in no doubt that I can count on the town’s continued efforts to make the most of this opportunity.”
